DEE BUTTERFIELD ALUMNI CLASSIC 40th ANNIVERSARY
July 8, 9 & 10, 2010 - Ponoka Stampede Grounds - Ponoka, Alberta
|
The Dee Butterfield Alumni Classic was a huge success with past students coming from all across Western Canada and even one from Odessa, Washington. There were 60 monies paid and 90 awards placed.
A great atmosphere surrounded the event with so many people volunteering to help it run smoothly. Rain the second day caused the arena to be a mud hole but the ground was safe and it did not dampen the spirits of the Alumni attendees.
Dee would like to send out a heart-felt thank you to all the sponsors, volunteers, committee members, contestants and family who contributed to making this an extremely fun and memorable event! |

Dee Butterfield has enjoyed a very successful career in rodeo including 15 amatuer barrel racing titles, competing at 11 Canadian Finals Rodeos, earning four CPRA season leader titles, qualifying for the National Finals Rodeo and winning a Canadian Championship in 1992. She has also accumulated multiple futurity and derby championships spanning four decades. Having trained all her own horses from a young age, Dee developed a knowledge that is unsurpassed in the sport. Her expertise ranges from breeding and raising barrel prosepects, starting and developing the young horse, right through to the highest level of competition. She knows what it takes to be successful and win in this demanding event, and has the ability to pass that knowledge on, helping her students achieve their own dreams.
Always willing to help other competitors, Dee began instructing barrel racing and horsemanship clinics at the age of 18. The year 2010 will be 40 years that she has held these informative clinics across Western Canada, Austrailia, and Hawaii. Teaching the fundamentals of this exciting sport, inspiring training and riding skills with emphasis on the importance of developing a winning attitude, Dee's students have gone on to win in amateur, high school, little britches, junior and professional levels. Some students have become provincial, state, and national champions.
The clinics are suitable for all levels of rider, from first time on a horse or around a barrel competing professionals, plus there is virtually no age requirement. Dee's youngest student was four and the eldest was 65, and one student has attended the clinics off and on for 34 years.
